Citizens’ petition for urgent action on animal poisonings in Novi Sad
Addressed to
- The Police Department of Novi Sad
- The Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad
- The City Administration for Inspection Affairs — Communal Inspection
- The Mayor of the City of Novi Sad
What the petition is about
For more than a month poison has been scattered again and again in public places across several parts of Novi Sad. Many dogs have died, both owned and stray, and dead pigeons and other birds keep being found.
The poison lies where children walk every day and where people walk their dogs. The danger does not stop in the street: the toxic substances are carried into flats on shoes and on animals’ paws.
Scattering poison in a public place is a criminal offence — killing and torturing animals (Article 269) and causing general danger (Article 278). The petition asks the authorities to do what the law already requires of them.
What we ask for
- That the police carry out investigative actions, secure evidence and file criminal charges against those responsible.
- That the prosecutor’s office acts ex officio and orders forensic examination of the baits found and of the dead animals.
- That the Communal Inspection and the utility Čistoća remove poisoned baits immediately, put up warnings and step up patrols.
- That the City Administration informs residents about the danger and calls on them to report anything suspicious, with anonymity guaranteed.
